UCG Career Day on Monday, April 22 from 10:00 to 18:00. 

It is with great pleasure that we announce the second UCG Career Day.

The Liberal Arts and Sciences bachelor is an intense programme, but time needs to be set aside to #CraftYourCareers.

UCG will host talks, workshops, and an alumni event. Along with free CV and LinkedIn checks, a photo booth and networking opportunities.

All designed to inspire UCG students in their future career!

10:00 - 11:15 Register & Get Your Token Badge (Entrance)
11:15 - 12:30 Talk: Internships & Traineeships after UCG (Learning Landscape)

Speaker : Rients Verschoor

What is a traineeship and what internships are available for recent graduates and how can both fit your career development after UCG? This session will allow you to discover more about internships and traineeships and how they can be a very interesting next step for you after UCG. The session will be led by Rients Verschoor, co-founder of Vonk.

11:15 - 12:30 Workshop: Your Professional Identity and your LAS studies | Part 1 (Classroom Big 118)

Trainer : UG Career Services

A workshop to define your qualities and skills. How do you identify yourself as an academic, what are your unique skills and what motivates you? What are your values, what do you want to develop, and what conditions do you find important in a job? In this workshop, you will learn to reflect on who you are professionally and to think about what you want, a great starting point for entering the dynamic job market! 

11:15 - 12:30 Talk: Fields in High-Demand in the NL and How To Approach Them (Room 129)

Speaker: Marjolein Wiesma, Project Coordinator Make it in the North

A talk by Make it in the North to get a better understanding of what are the hot sectors in the Netherlands and to learn how to prepare yourself for applying for a job in the Netherlands. Make it in the North is an English-language online platform for finding a job in Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe and acts as the hub in the north of the Netherlands for students, staff and business to share vacancies, information, news, and culture.

11:15 - 12:30  Workshop: UCG Model United Nations (UCGMUN) Conference 2024 Prep Workshop (Room 130)

Join the UCGMUN,  the student-run organization behind UCG's inaugural Model United Nations, for a public speaking workshop designed to attract and prepare UCG students for the upcoming conference. This workshop aims to alleviate the anxiety of participating in academic debates for the first time. The session will carefully introduce topics and rules of procedure, culminating in a practice debate to boost confidence and ensure success at the conference. Don't miss this opportunity to refine your public speaking skills and excel in academic discourse!

12:30 - 13:30  Lunch & Bake Sale | Walk-in CV, Cover Letter & LinkedIn Check! (Canteen & Bar) 

Please show your lunch token to get a tasty lunch included in your registration. There will also be a bake sale to raise funds for our Madi! And to round it all up, for those looking to capture memories, a photo booth will be available and Career Services will be offering LinkedIn and CV check-ups throughout the hour.

12:30 - 13:30 Networking Session: Link & Level Up (High table room downstairs)   

Book your one-on-one networking time during the dynamic Networking session organized by Futura, to connect with professionals, and expand your network, exchange ideas, and explore career opportunities with companies like Klippa, belsimpel, UMCG, Researchable, the European Patent Office, and many more!

13:45-14:45 Keynote: Calling upon your LAS experience in navigating your career and wellbeing (Learning Landscape)

Join us for an engaging keynote session that blends the realms of careers, wellbeing, and Liberal Arts and Sciences skills. Mark Baldwin, Senior Counsellor and Careers Advisor at University College Utrecht (UCU), will delve into the art of recognizing and articulating LAS competencies that resonate with potential recruiters across various sectors. Through interactive discussion you will explore skills and qualities, gaining insight into what can set you apart in the job market being a LAS student.

Biography

Mark joined UC Utrecht in 2011 after several years working at other universities and in international project management. With oversight of the Connect Centre for Guidance and Counselling, responsibilities include setting welfare strategy, personal counselling, supporting student initiatives on campus, policy development, crisis intervention, maintaining referral networks, and membership of the university-wide Student Wellbeing Group. Mark also coordinates the national University College Guidance Network, manages the UCU Futures Centre (a small careers service), and sits on the UCU Scholarship Advisory Committee. Other of his shared projects include UCU’s ‘Flux’ art gallery and a special support group for highly gifted students, as well as a yearly program of hikes with students in national parkland.

He has a wide array of professional training and qualifications in counselling, coaching and guidance, orientated towards young adults in the fields of health, education, sports and struggle. He is also a mountaineer, holds two martial arts black belts, and is a practicing visual artist (link to gallery).

15:00-16:30 - UCG Alumni Story Harvest: Careers with Impact after UCG (Learning Landscape)

Speakers: UCG Alumni

Moderator : Marlen Stohr, UCG Alumni Officer 

UCG Alumni Panel where you’ll hear tips, experiences, insights and recommendations from all UCG graduated cohorts.  The panel discussion will start as a moderated panel by the new faculty’s Alumni officer, Marlen, and then move into an open Q&A with the audience using a participatory approach that will allow you to fully squeeze the info offered in this session to the maximum!

16:30 - 18:00 - Caerus Social Event & Bake Sale (Bar & Canteen) 

Get ready to unwind and connect at the Caerus Social Event! Take photos in the photobooth, have a drink and listen to some groovy music! See you there!
